Active Retirement

Active RetirementWe are a very Active Retirement Association, we meet every Thursday from 2.00pm until 4.00pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre, beside the Church on Kill Lane, Foxrock. Contact Anne Howard 086-3780493 for further details.

The aim of our Association is to give older people entertainment of many different variations. We may have a musical afternoon, when we bring in different musicians, or we may have a talk which is of interest to our members, like advice from a Solicitor regarding wills etc. or perhaps a local historian. We have a very enjoyable quiz once a month, with small prizes for the winning team. For those of us not too active we have chair yoga occasionally. We finish each meeting with a very welcome cup of tea and biscuits, and sometimes beautiful homemade cake made by our own members and brought to the meeting.

Our Social Secretary arranges holidays in the Spring and in the Autumn, we may have a holiday abroad and a holiday here at home in our own country; these holidays are very popular to our members, many of whom may live on their own and love the company.

We have frequent outings to places of interest, recently we were in the Cavan County Museum, a wonderful place of interest and a place well worth visiting. We always have a coffee break when we arrive at our destination and all of our outings finish with lunch in some restaurant or hotel.

Each year we have a “bring and buy” sale and one never knows what valuables may be amongst the goodies available to buy.

When it comes to partying, we in Foxrock Active Retirement Association, or FARA for short, know how to party. St. Patrick’s day, Easter, the break up for the summer, or on any notable occasion we will have a party in the hall; we sometimes get in caterers, we have music to dance to and we let our hair down after we have had our goodies. At Christmas time we have a party in our hall and we also have an annual Christmas Dinner night out when we go to a restaurant where after the meal we dance the night away.

If you would like to join our Association, we have a membership of approximately 120, just turn up and you will be made very welcome.  Below is a sample to the types of entertainment and activities we enjoy.
